Check out http://www.cuil.com the new search engine with a vision to be bigger and better than Google. The team who are behind the new search engine is made up of ex employees of Google, Altavista and IBM Search. So they have the pedigree to make big waves.
The idea behind Cuil's search technology is to look at the meaning of web pages beyond that of the words used. Currently search engines look at the words on a page and that of the pages linking to it. The way websites are index isn't the only difference with Cuil, results pages are laid out in an almost e-magazine structure. Images accompany results which makes the search experience a little more interesting, how useful it is I don't know. First impressions As it stands at the moment Cuil seems to be having teething problems with extremely slow results if any show at all. No doubt these issues will be solved soon. So far Cuil have indexed 121,617,892,992 pages however from doing a few searches the results seem all little incomplete and off. Again teething problems I am sure. How Cuil will effect youIf Cuil succeeds or fails doesn't matter, what does matter is that a new way of indexing websites is very much on the horizon. It is no longer the just the words on your web page that count, it is the way in which the words are used. Last update : 28-07-2008 21:12
